Raindrops

image

I love the rain. Many people complain about grey rainy days but I don’t understand: the rain brings out all the colour.

Now for a real summer

Last summer was cool and wet. Crops did poorly and plants didn’t waste their time flowering much. So it is with delight that I present this shot of the tree behind our place.

Instant Bouquet

Alas, the light isn’t ideal and since it’s not in our yard it’s hard to get close.

As might be expected, it is a magnet for nectar feeding birds. I particularly like the lorikeets but they are very hard to get a shot of, seeming to know when the camera is pointed at them and moving out of shot.

Wattlebird feeding

Well, a wattle-bird made itself available, briefly.

There have been wrens, too, but those flitty little creatures are hard enough to capture out in the open, let alone under the shade of a healthy canopy.

Until I can get some better shots, here’s a Bulbul for good measure.

Well, the tree that I thought had died hasn’t. Here it can be seen with fresh spring growth about a month and a half behind the rest of the trees. So glad, as it one of my favourite trees.

A favourite tree

This is my favourite tree around my backyard – I love the texture of the bark.

But I fear it has died. The bark has become pale, the branches give no indication of spring shoots still. And I wonder what or who has killed it. No more little helicopter seeds, I guess.

Here’s a bunch of photos from My Backyard, all in one place.

Silvereye

The now torn down vines that hung over our backyard keeping the Silvereye safe. The vines were torn down about a week ago – I came home and there was so much light. I had a love/hate relationship with these vines because they were lovely on the one hand but choking everything on the other.
